"Keep taking the Wi-Fi"

About: Adult Mental Health Community

(as a service user),

I’m A Catherine Wheel and access mental health services via The Stonebridge Centre, (Team East) in Nottingham’s fair city, where the women are so witty.

My post concerns our Wi-Fi.

How about giving us access to our Wi-Fi in the refreshment outlets run by Options in our local mental health services? Perhaps in the lovely Cafe Art.

Currently at Cafe Art only the Trust’s staff can use our Wi-Fi, as the password is withheld from the rest of us. The local services are part of the NHS, and are paid for mainly from the public purse. The spirit of the NHS is for it to be there when we need it, and free at the point of access. It is our NHS, collectively accessed and owned, by all of us.

Cafe Art might be a public/private partnership where we do pay for the latte when we order it. Sadly we do not collectively own that. We do though own the Wi-Fi which is served up in Cafe Art along with the latte. You know, a skinny latte and a slice of our Wi-Fi would go down a treat for me. Like the staff I too would enjoy savouring my laptop to the full.

I feel like re-inventing myself as a Service Loser without the Wi-FI. I’m sure access to our Wi-Fi would contribute greatly to my mental stealth and waywarding. And most appropriately in a cafe, these things mushroom, and before you know it, lots of other peoples’ mental stealth will steep.

So please will our local services consider giving us our Wi-Fi?

Hello

thank you for your thoughts on the issue of Public Wi-fi in our public spaces such as Options and Cafe Art.

you are right that the wi-fi used by Trust employees is encrypted due to the confidential nature of the information on that system.

However, I have made an enquiry of our IT department about the feasibility of providing an open publicly accessible wi-fi, and I shall update this post once I have received their reply.

kind regards
tim

Thanks Tim for looking into Wi-Fi access in the public places, and for being so prompt to see if this is feasible. It would be very useful to have this access and I'm sure other people would enjoy this too. I am delighted that you have shown such interest.

Hello

I have made an inquiry of the Trust IT team who have told me that they are currently looking at completing a Guest and Patient network as per the NHS Digital directive for 2019. They are seeking the resources needed but it is a project which is progressing.

When ready it will be communicated out via the Trust Intranet. I don't have any information about when this will be, but as soon as I see that the work is done I shall also post an update here.

Hope that helps

kind regards

Tim

Hi Tim

That's, brilliant. Many thanks for finding out about wi-fi for me. Sorry, never heard of an NHS Digital Directive! Obviously didn't buy the "i" daily paper on the day it was news! And alas I've no idea about the Trust intranet. Is it something that I could have been accessing all this time? I find it quite hard to find out what's going on in the Local Services. We could do with a booklet on how to find out stuff. I only found out we had a communications dept quite by accident too. Oh well.

Best wishes

A Catherine Wheel
