Don't let anyone tell you that the 111 service doesn't work!
I rang 111 at around 8. 00am. I had breast cancer surgery and breast reduction 6 weeks ago and have had problems with infection and open wounds, which, this morning, were particularly unpleasant, weeping and uncomfortable. I wanted a second course of antibiotics.
The 111 Nurse I spoke to (Sharon) (who 'phoned within a short time of my initial call) reassured me and suggested a visit from the District Nurse to check and, if necessary, redress the wounds.
Shortly after the call from the Sharon I received a call from the on-call doctor, who organised a prescription for antibiotics which was ready immediately from our local Boots store.
By 10. 00am I had a visit from the District Nurse (Ann) who redressed the wounds, took a swab (and requested by the on-call doctor) and gave advice about pain relief. By the time she left I felt very much happier and thoroughly reassured that nothing I'd done had exacerbated the problem.
I have nothing but praise for both the 111 service and the hospital treatment I've received.
"Nothing but praise for the 111 service"
