"Uncomfortable appointment"

About: Victoria Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

Today at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, I was there about getting septoplasty for my deviated septum.

I was given an appointment with an ENT consultant. I had waited a number of years for this appointment as they couldn’t do it previously due to high blood pressure.

The consultant asked about my BMI and I told them it would be high. They asked the nurse to take me outside to get my height and weight. When the nurse and I returned to the room the nurse told the consultant my weight and they immediately raised their eyebrows.

I have never ever felt so belittled and angry with someone who works for our NHS than I have today. In my opinion, this consultant needs to learn how to remain professional rather than making me feel like an overweight patient who doesn’t deserve a simple operation.
