I was referred to a consultant in in late 2022, and saw them in early 2023. I was told I needed ovarian cysts removing, due to my maternal grandmother, my mother and my sister all having had ovarian cancer.
My consultant said they would remove the ovaries at the same time as I am already a good way through the menopause. I went to my doctor for an unrelated appointment earlier on this year and asked if there was any chance of finding out when I would get my op. At my consultation last year, my consultant had said possibly three to four months' waiting time although I appreciate that this is flexible, I do understand that things change and that the health service is under immense pressure.
I was contacted and put on a list for the Lincoln (private) hospital to be seen a little sooner, they telephoned me to change my face-to-face appointment to a telephone one, the surgeon spoke to me at this appointment and told me they weren't confident to do my op so was referring me back to my consultant.
I was again contacted by a a really helpful member of staff who got things sorted for me and I have had a pre-op appointment. I was recently due for surgery, got there, waited on a bed for most of the day and was then sent home cancelled. This has put increasing pressure on me as whilst I am told that blood tests show there is no cancer, I feel like I’m carrying a time bomb around with me given my family history. I presumed I would be operated on the following week but no, I have been told probably early May now.
I have never complained and have always appreciated the excellent care I have received from the staff within the NHS but I feel so incredibly let down and want to know how it can be sorted. Am I ever going to get my operation?
