"Early appointment for day procedure"

About: Cardiology / Cardiac Procedure lounge Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

Arrived at 7.10am with mum for a cardiac procedure on level 5 RVH. Mum needed a wheelchair.

The Help Desk doesn’t open until 8am. No Porters available. Shop staff were fabulous, suggested I try A&E.

In A&E the staff member was also fabulous, looked everywhere in the department without success. Mum walked to the ward - it took a while, but she did it.

Perhaps there could be some thought toward improving this early morning experience for patients. I’m sure there could to be an option to liaise with early ward appointments and provide staff cover on the help desk.

I appreciate that wheelchairs may not be returned at times, or are abandoned where they shouldn’t be! Yet I believe they are necessary for patients attending a hospital

Hello lepuscm84

My name is Kevin Patterson I am the Facilitator for Patient and Client Experience for the Belfast Trust and I also manage the Front of House desk at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

I am sorry about your experience when attending the RVH, the Front of House desk is operational from 8am to 8pm Monday to Sunday. I am aware that your appointment fell outside these times which made it difficult for you to get a porter.

I have raised your concerns with the Cardiology team and I have shared your story with those whom can make a change.

Many thanks

Kevin Patterson
