"Waited for 9 hours to be told operation was cancelled"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

I waited 13 months to actually receive an appointment for my operation date - I arrived at 06:45 on day of operation, advised to take only clear fluids from 3am on the date so not eaten since previous day. I had been taken from waiting area to curtained cubicle to have observation taken and questions by nurse and anaesthetists. The cubicle chair obviously hadn't been cleaned between patients as there was 2 pillows left on chair and cotton ball with tape attached screwed up on floor next to chair-obviously from someone who had their blood taken, I had to ask nurse to remove this. I then sat in waiting room for 9 hours to be told my operation was cancelled. This seemed very strange as at 15:00 hrs the reception team were leaving and said I was next on list and nothing else was booked in that would delay my operation. I have spoken to 3 other people since I returned home who stated the same had happened to them.

I am absolutely disgusted that it appears acceptable to treat people like cattle, surely if surgery is not going to happen until very late afternoon then you should not be needed to sit in a waiting room for over 9 hours plus.
