My daughter has settled in really well since transition last year, five days a week. It's worked out really well. I would be quite old fashioned, I think you need a purpose in life, you need something to fulfil you.
We are delighted she has her own space and her own needs are met. She's been out to Mount Stewart, out on a boat (Sailability). She's baking and cooking, shopping trips to do hair and make-up, she comes home delighted, I think it challenges her.
Andrew, he is a gentleman, he is our Psychiatrist. She is struggling with OCD at the minute, he's looking at drugs to try and settle her.
Thomas, Tina, Lorna and Mandy, they get my daughter and they know how to interact with her, they understand her.
Transition was supposed to start at age 14 within school but there was very little at the beginning. It only really started at 19. Judith was her Social Worker, she was super, and the process was better once she got involved.
The team have supported us as a family as well as my daughter. At the beginning, as she doesn't talk, it was difficult for the staff to know what she wanted. The Speech Therapist worked with the team to develop a communication for my daughter and the team, this worked really well.
We are happy knowing she is getting quality of life, consistency and is happy. When we arrive at Hawthorns my daughter is happy to get out of the car and walk in.
"She comes home delighted"
