"Excellent care following broken ankle"

About: Outpatients / Fracture Clinic University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I recently had a complicated ankle injury (dislocated heel and broken talus) and self presented at University Hospital Wishaw. We were immediately helped by paramedics at the entrance who were so kind and put me at ease by making sure I had pain relief and keeping me calm.

Orthopaedic doctors and A&E staff were also excellent, giving wonderful care that was thoughtful and also effective. The orthopaedic doctors realigned my heel there and then before putting me in a cast while we waited for news regarding surgery.

I wasn’t able to receive surgery until the next Friday since my injury was so complex and required a specialist. While this was obviously not ideal, the care I received when staying in the hospital cannot be faulted. The staff in the short stay surgical ward were all so kind and welcoming - nothing felt like a trouble to them and we had plenty of lovely conversation to keep me sane throughout the stay!

My surgeon, Mr Bodo, and his team were all so professional too and made sure to explain the surgery clearly to leave me reassured going into it - from what we know at this point in my recovery, the surgery was also impeccable work and has set me up for a much easier recovery than perhaps could have been otherwise. I was discharged with a clear path going forward and with support in place.

As much as being injured is never ideal, I cannot fault the care I received throughout.

Hi phoenixforce,

Thank you for taking your time to provide feedback on the range of services you encountered at University Hospital Wishaw.

I am so pleased to hear that all the teams involved treated you so well throughout your stay with us. I am glad you found the team caring and friendly and the conversation helped to take your mind off the unfortunate situation with you ankle.

I will pass on your kind words to all the teams involved, and Mr Bodo and his team, who I am sure will be delighted to hear ow their care impacted your experience.

I hope your ankle is recovering well.

Kind regards,

Alix
