"Care after a fall"

About: Community Services - North Devon / Community Rehabilitation Devon County Council NHS Devon Integrated Care Board

(as the patient),

I was admitted to hospital after a fall, I broke my femur. All very good in there, they were amazing. I was much relaxed. I have never eaten so good, slept so good and they helped me keep my independence. The nurses are brilliant – angels. When I came home I had a registered nurse Tracy visit and she helped with equipment and things but I told her I didn’t need her anymore, I didn’t want to waste her time. I have carers, but they are never the same and are quite bossy and controlling. Some forget that I am celiac and have stomach problems but I am not complaining because I need them. My daughter also cares for me. One of my carers has broken the handle on my wheelchair also.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your experiences of the service you received.

Firstly I am very sorry to hear you broke your femur. A femoral fracture can be very traumatic and distressing and I am pleased you received such good care whilst in hospital and felt the staff did a great job helping you keep your independence.

The Health and Social care Team make it a priority to visit all patients soon after their discharge to ensure they are adjusting well to being home. I'm glad that Tracey was able to provide you with the additional aids and support you needed. Our goal is always to help patients feel safe and settled upon returning home and you can be assured that reaching out for assistance is never a waste of our time.

I am sorry to hear you have encountered difficulties with the carers and that the care didn't fully meet your expectations. I will pass this feedback along to the team responsible for coordinating the carers and will ensure your concerns are followed up and addressed. Every patient deserves to feel safe, respected and well-cared for in their own home, and we are committed to upholding this standard.

I am sorry to hear the handle of your wheelchair has broken if you would like assistance with this, please don't hesitate to email the Bideford Health and Social Care Team on rduh.bidefordchsc@nhs.net, and we would be happy to help.

Once again, I am sorry to hear of the challenges you faced following your recent discharge and I will ensure these issues are addressed accordingly.

I hope you are continuing to make a good recovering and wish you well.

Kind regards

Susan
