I was recently in the ICU due to delirium and also my kidney function had dropped to just about rock bottom, so before I got discharged I asked the nurses could I please get some pain relief.
One nurse said I will get you some now, but about 25 minutes passed and there was no sign of them, by which point I was in absolute agony with my renal pain. I could hear the nurses at my end of the unit laughing and joking, I’d also dropped my buzzer so had to lean out over the side of my bed nearly falling out but managed to stop myself.
I pressed the buzzer where I was left roughly another 5 minutes, the nurses at my then came into my room gave me my morphine, then as they went out of my room they flicked their leg up and said let’s do some TikTok videos.
I’m not saying nurses have to just sit there all night when on night shift but they were looking after myself and other critical care patients.
You know I couldn’t fault the rest of the staff at the ICU at Aberdeen hospital they went above and beyond to help care and get me better
