"Good experience"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / General surgery Grantham & District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I was admitted for a total hip replacement. Throughout my stay I felt safe, well cared for, listened to. All the staff were very kind and helpful. They were knowledgeable, listened to you, were very encouraging and helped whenever you needed it. If you rang the buzzer you didnt have to wait ages before they came to you.

This good experience covered all areas of staffing, nurses, porters, the lady that brought the drinks and cuppas, healthcare professionals, physio, occupational health, doctors, anaesthetists, consultant.

It felt more personal and caring, not rushed. I felt my care was important to them.

I had concerns over certain aspects of the procedure but these were all addressed and I felt reassured.

My only suggestion, and this is for my local NHS not pertinent to my experience, would be to have a follow up physiotherapy appointment to check progress and advise way forward. I know somebody who had hip surgery on the NHS in the same health authority but at a private hospital and had reviews after 2 & 4 weeks. I would have found this useful.

I would certainly recommend Grantham and choose it as a place to go to for elective surgery.
