"My daughter's appointments with Camhs"

About: Child and Adolescent Mental Services / CAMHS services Armagh & Dungannon

(as a parent/guardian),

I asked our GP to refer my daughter for anxiety as we were struggling to manage this at home. Our referral was accepted in a timely fashion and we received our first appointment much quicker than I expected. We received a leaflet in the post explaining the service and what to expect which was very useful. Both my daughter and I were a little apprehensive before we attended the assessment as we didn't really know what would happen.

We were very fortunate to have Nicola as our allocated clinician. Nicola very quickly put both my daughter and I at ease. Nicola engaged my daughter in the assessment in an appropriate way for her age. At the end of our assessment, my daughter said to me 'I can't wait to go back again'. We have had one further appointment which has been focused primarily on my daughter which was amazing.

The resources we have been sent have really helped us work on things at home. My daughter has been excited to receive envelopes addressed to her. I wasn't sure whether to go down the route of CAMHs but I am so glad I did as it has already made a big difference and provided me with the tools to help support my daughter..thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us through care opinion. It is helpful when we receive feedback from those people who use our services.

We understand how difficult it can be for young people and their families at times when attending CAMHS, particularly if they are experiencing anxiety. As practitioners we aim to engage with young people at a level that not only leaves them feeling involved in the process but playing a leading role in the supports they are availing of as this increases the likelihood of positive change taking place. It is heartening to hear that this has been the experience of you and daughter.

Thank you again for taking time out to share such positive feedback with us and I will of course share this with Nicola and the Clinic Manager.
