"Cancelled appointments"

About: Horton General Hospital / Neurology

(as a service user),

I was referred to neurology last November 2023. I keep getting letters promising an appointment with a date and time. Every time we get close to an actual appointment date they cancel the appointment and then offer another in 3 months time.

Neurology conditions can have a huge impact of the life of the person waiting especially if they have epilepsy. My life has been on hold since the referral. The staff I have spoken with have been absolutely awful, condescending, rude, I would not wish anyone to ever have to deal with them.

I have told them many times I don’t live near Oxford so getting there is a logistical nightmare but for months they offered appointments in Oxford rather than the local hospital. When I advise I’m not willing to have a brain MRI this time I was spoken to like a small naughty child! It’s never shown anything in the past and I don’t want my head caged in, because I said no they wrote to my doctor saying I would not do what they wanted, waiting a doctor's appointment as they had to ring me to agree that I’d said from the word go I’m not having a MRI.

I’ve been told the actual waiting time for an appointment is 18 months. They are supposed to make people better not to make a condition they diagnosed worse with stress, anxiety and making someone feel hopeless when things they took for granted are taken away with no hope of return until you actually get to see someone!
