Due to increased BMI and pregnant, at my booking appointment I was referred to the weigh to healthy pregnancy programme for nutritional advice during the pregnancy. Prior to my first appointment I was slightly nervous as I didn’t want an any judgement or feeling ashamed about being over weight and how unhealthy it can be in pregnancy. However from 5 minutes into my first appointment I could clearly see this is not what the programme was about. It was a really informal no judgement conversation in which Rachel, the dietician, gave valuable advice on nutrition and staying healthy in pregnancy. This was super helpful for me as I had low haemoglobin levels and gestational diabetes. I had numerous check in appointments from Rachel and Fiona, the midwife, throughout my pregnancy which were really nice touch base conversations, as being consultant lead i didn’t get as much interaction with the midwives so for me these check ins were great. I had my baby 8 weeks ago and just had my last appointment with Rachel and Fiona this morning. Again it was a lovely informal conversation about how to carry the healthy habits forward and a weight check in. The part I hate! However I was really pleased to find out that I didn’t gain any weight during pregnancy other than the appropriate amount and that I am back to pre pregnancy weight. So for me personally I can say the programme definitely worked and would 100% recommend this to any other mums.
