Mum had been discharged from hospital on end of life care. We managed the first day transporting her from bed to chair using a wheelchair. The next day we managed to get her to the chair but unfortunately she deteriorated so rapidly we couldn’t get her to the bed as we couldn’t lift her
We phoned 999 but was told it’s not in there remit to help someone on end of life care to get to the comfortable bed from a chair.
Mum had to spend the night in the chair which she found both uncomfortable and distressing. Next morning we phoned the district nurse and spoke to Dawn, we then explained that we had reached crisis point. She then arranged The urgent community response, and within 40 minutes we had Steve, Louise and Sarah assisting mum out of the chair and to the bed where they cleaned her and gave her a change of night clothes.
She looked so peaceful and pain free
Throughout the day carers came to care for her Steve had organised them
Mum died 18 hours later but it was comforting to know she was peaceful and pain free thanks to this wonderful team and the district nurses. A big Thank you.
"The great care we received"
