I fell off my bike on Friday and broke my hip. The ambulance came and they were really reassuring and took me very gently to A&E at hairmyres. The staff in A&E were very professional and supportive. They were also very funny which made everything easier, the doctor who told me I might need a hip replacement was so nice and funny and had such a lovely smile that it made it seem less daunting.
Dr Grant was also very supportive and dedicated and did my surgery the next day, luckily I didn’t need a hip replacement.
I like my appetite and was impressed with the food, I must be one of the few people that enjoy hospital food. The lady that brought the food was so nice, and one day she asked which of three toppings I would like on my jacket potato, and I thought she meant I could have all three, not just one, but I was allowed to have all three which I thought was great. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a little more variety on the menu for people that have to stay in hospital for longer, for example some fresh fruit would be nice for example a banana for breakfast, it wouldn’t be a big change but it would be a nice small change to make things more varied and healthy.
I left hospital feeling very impressed by the care, compassion and humour throughout my experience, I felt supported the whole way through, from the paramedics, to the doctors and nurses, to the porters and the catering staff, everyone was truly amazing.
