Here is a list of the common terms we use at Care Opinion, and any relevant help pages. This is quite a long page so use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+f to search for certain words you are interested in.

Administrator (site role): Subscription administrators can manage other users by adding or removing members, changing their roles, and handling permissions. They also have the ability to customise service pages, manage alerts for others, and request restrictions on certain stories.

Advanced moderation: Care Opinion will moderate stories in line with the moderation policy but, unlike standard moderation, we will email providers to offer an opportunity for review before publication .

Alerts: Subscription members can be alerted when certain stories ore responses are published. These can cover the whole subscription scope, or certain areas only.

Anonymous: Stories will not include the name of authors or any personal details, which might make them identifiable.

Assets: Also called ‘Saved Things’. Assets are any saved searches, alerts, reports, visualisations, and digests you have created.

Author: We refer to everyone who share their story on Care Opinion as an author. They could be a service user, the patient, a carer, a parent/guardian, a relative, a friend or a volunteer/advocate.7.

API/Application Programming Interface:  Care Opinion can provide an API key to access all the data of published stories, responses, tags, health services, and treatment functions as part of the subscription. You will need a way to read the API key

Blog: Care Opinion has a built-in blogging feature as part of subscriptions. This allows an easy communication with subscription members and the public. Blogs can be created by administrators or responders of a subscription  Please note that all blogs are public and available for viewing by everyone, not just your subscription members.

Bespoke webinars: Subscriptions to Care Opinion might include bespoke training session that are customised to your own subscription and services. The details about these will be included in your SLA

Change planned: This option can be added to organisational responses to say there is a change planned not it is not able to be made just yet. You need to follow this with an additional response when the change is made. 

Change made: This option can be added to responses to authors indicating that a change to practice has been made

Criticality: During moderation, a criticality score is assigned to each story. this is based on the most critical comment in the story. This is to help subscribers understand the urgency of the issues raised or set up alerts and reports on the score. These scores are not shared publicly.

Digest: A digest is an email that contains a weekly summary of stories. Every subscription member can set this up for themselves. Subscription administrators can also set a digest up for other members.

Freepost leaflet: This is a foldable leaflet where authors can write their feedback about the health and care services. They are then sealed and posted free of charge. Subscribers can order these from Care Opinion. 

How to Webinars: Training and support webinars are hosted by Care Opinion’s Support team at a national level. These are free for all subscribing organisations and are recommended for everyone, from beginners to experienced users.

Invitation links: An invitation link is a way for you to ask for feedback about a specific service or issue. An invitation link is a URL link that takes the user straight to the tell your story page. These links are customisable.

Implementation: Implementation refers to the process of rolling out Care Opinion within your organisation after subscribing.

Know-How pages: The Know-How pages are the Care Opinion help pages for subscriber. These pages explain how to use the Car Opinion website and promote Care Opinion

Linked service: Linked services refer to the services that the story is about. It can be a single service or multiple services depending on the story.

Member (site role): A member on your subscription can read stories and create their own alerts and responses. But they cannot respond to any stories or make changes to other subscription members 

Moderation:  All stories and most responses are moderated by Care Opinion team before being published.

Private tags:  For stories within your subscription, you can add private tags to stories that are only visible to you. Your private tags might help you in sharing, analysing and reporting on stories within your subscription.

Profile: A profile on Care Opinion is a personal page for users. Your profile contains information about your role and member details, alerts, subscription(s) and recent responses. You can edit these details

Public tags (or story tags):  All stories on Care Opinion have public tags. Usually about how the person felt, test, treatments and conditions, plus what was good and could be improved. These are searchable.

Reporting:  Reporting is a subscription feature. Subscriptions can report on stories, responses, members and authors

Response: A response is a reply to a story. All stories and responses are public. Responding is only available to responders/administrators within a subscription. Authors can also respond to their own stories.

Responder (site role) : A responder on your subscription can read stories and create their own alerts and responses. The can also respond to stories on the website and create blog posts

Scope: This defines which stories fall within your subscription. These are the stories you can respond to, be alerted about, report on, and more. Some stories may also fall within the scope of other staff members in different organisations or subscriptions.

Safeguarding: Safeguarding in relation to moderation refers to how we react to stories that contain information identifying someone at risk of immediate harm

Saved things: See also "assets"". Assets are any saved searches, alerts, reports, visualisations, and digests you have created. You can view all your saved items on the "Saved Things" page under the Navigation panel

Service(s): A service on Care Opinion refers to a specific health or social care provider, such as a hospital, clinic, department/ward, social care, etc.

Service Page: A service page on Care Opinion is a page dedicated to a specific health or care service, such as a hospital, clinic, or department. These pages can be customised to make them more helpful

Service tree: The service tree represents the entire health/care system on Care Opinion and includes thousands of services. We link stories to services on the tree. Each organisation that provides care could be on the service tree. We refer to “your service tree” as the bit of this structure that covers the your organisation. You can make requests to change or update your service tree.

Shared tags:  For stories within your subscription, you can create shared tags that are only visible to others in your subscription. This feature allows you and your subscription members to categorise stories using shared tags then report on these

Story: A story on Care Opinion is a personal experience shared by members of the public about health or care services. We call the people who write stories on Care Opinion authors. The story could describe a specific episode of care or an entire care journey, told in the author’s own words.

Subscription:  A subscription to Care Opinion is an agreement that allows health and social care organisations to access and use the platform's services. Different organisations may subscribe at different levels. A subscription will include a term and a scope.

Subscription members: Subscription members refer to all current members and frozen members under your organisation's subscription to Care Opinion

Star Responder: Star Responders are individuals within health and social care services recognised by Care Opinion for their exceptional responses to stories. 

Tell your story/TYS: The ‘Tell your story’ is the key function of the site that guides the public telling their experiences - both positive and negative - about health and social care services.

Triggers:  In addition to basic alert options for when a story or response is posted regarding your service, you can add additional triggers to help you manage your stories and create reminders. 

Visualisations: Visualisations are are a way to summarise and explore stories visually. Unlike reports, they can be interactive.
